Vasco Da Gama Goa

Vasco Da Gama is one of the fascinating places and is Goa's largest city. It is located on the west coast. The place is named after the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama. In order to reach this city, you have to travel a distance of nineteen miles from Panaji and from Dabolim airport, you can travel a distance of five km in order to reach this place. The city remained in the hands of Portuguese till the year 1961 AD. This is known for the famous port of India from where almost one third of the exports of India take place. The original name of the city was Sambaji and the famous Zuari river is nearby. One of the famous places of historical and religious importance in this part of the world is St Andrews church. This church dates back four hundred years back.

Main attractions of the church

Vasco Da Gama is located between two famous beaches. The bigger one is named Bogmolo beach. The popularity of this destination is also because of the famous 5 star hotel Oberoi. In the earlier times, it was just a fishing village. This is a sandy beach located at a distance of 8 km from the city of Vasco. On this beach, you will find many restaurants providing some dishes that are really special when it comes to sea food. Other beaches in Vasco Da Gama include Colva, Mojardo and Velsao.

Naval Aviation Museum

In this museum, you will see the aircrafts related to Indian navy apart from many weapons. You can also see some rare photographs related to liberation of Goa. This is in fact the first of its kind in India. It is well known for its multimedia games section.

Mormugao Port

If you want to see the large container vessels, you can go to Mormugao port. From here, ores and minerals are exported to different parts of the world, including Korea and Japan.
