Canacona is in the southern part of Goa. This is known for its mesmerizing beauty of nature and is among the talukas of South Goa. In the western part of this place, you have the Arabian Sea and in the southern part, you have Karnataka. If you visit this place between November and March, it will be a real awesome experience. During these months, you can find a cool effect in Goa as far as the climatic conditions are concerned.

Origin of the place
The origin of the name Canacona comes from Konkan as per the former communities that lived in this part of the world. As per the historical records, this was part of Soonda kingdom but later the territory was given to Portuguese. In the year 1794, this place merged with Goa. In fact, this place is a gateway to the mesmerizing beaches like Pololem, Agonda and Rajbagh.
Principal attractions
If you are an environmentalist or a wildlife lover, you can visit Cotigao wildlife sanctuary and have the glimpse of tiger, wild boar and many other animals. This wildlife sanctuary came into existence in the year 1969 and is attached to the dense forest cover of Goa Karnataka border. The overall area of this sanctuary is touching 90 sq km.
Palolem beach and other beaches
Palolem beach is located at a distance of 2km in the western direction of Chaudi and if you are coming from Karnataka border, it is near. On the Cavelossim beach, you can enjoy dolphin watching which can also be cherished here during night time. This is because of the light facility on the beach resorts.
On the Agonda beach, you will love to have night camping. Listening to wave cracking against shore is a special experience.? Views of starry sky and sounds of crashing waves bestow a great experience.
Sri Mallikarjun temple
This is the temple dedicated to the avatar of Lord Shiva. The temple came into existence in 16th century. You can see the carvings and 60 shrines related to gods and goddesses of Hinduism.
